Patek Philippe. A fine and rare 18K gold dual time zone wristwatch with independently adjustable hour hand and an 18K gold bracelet Retailed by Gübelin Reference: 2597 Date: 1960 Movement: 18-jewel manual winding Cal. 12"'-400-HS, screwed monometallic balance, overcoiled spring, micrometer regulator, Seal of Geneva, No. 729400 Dial: Silvered, applied gold baton numerals, subsidiary seconds, gold hands Case: Calatrava, inscribed snap on back, pushers to adjust the hour hand at 8 and 10 o'clock in the case band, No.309958 Strap/Bracelet: 18K gold mesh, folding clasp Size: 36mm, length: 7 5/8in. Accompaniments: With an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming its manufacture in 1960 and subsequent sale November 22, 1960. Fußnoten Developed for Patek Philippe in the late 1950's by the renowned Louis Cottier, the uncommon dual time Ref. 2597 was aimed at the sophisticated international air traveler encountering rapidly changing time zones. Previous dual time watches requiring two separate movements were difficult to synchronize. By making the hour hand adjustable while the minute hand remains fixed, the problem was avoided. In addition, with buttons on the side of the case to adjust the hour, it was no longer necessary to remove the watch from the wrist to set the hour. Patented in 1959, the present example, from 1960, is one of the first series produced. An additional fixed hour hand was added to later versions. From the collection of the original owner, this watch has never before been offered for sale. The Gübelin signature on the dial adds to its rarity.
