Contemporary blindstamped calf by Jan Ryckhaert of Ghent [cf. Goldschmidt 145], sides decorated in a diaper pattern with alternating tools of a pilgrim and a stylised floral arrangement, at head and foot 4 fleur-de-lys tools and at sides 4 bee tools, vellum endleaves (rebacked, 2 corners repaired, lacks ties). Provenance : 16th-century marginalia and notes in 2 hands including the organisation of the Church in Sardinia and exchange rates of 32 European currencies (on last page) - the Brigittines at Cologne (17th-century ownership inscription on title). A rare and early edition of this list of dioceses and archdioceses of the Church based on records kept by the Papal administration, compiled by the Vatican librarian and vice-corrector Hieronymus Paulus of Barcelona (or Jeroni Pau in Catalan). The first edition was printed in Mainz in c.1457 with the types of the 36-line Bible; all copies are now lost.
