An extremely fine and important 22K gold and enamel single-hand pre balance spring pair cased verge watch with painted on enamel portrait of Louis XIV attributed to Pierre Huaud I Signed P. Vallette A Montpellier, circa 1660 Movement: Manual, gilt brass full plate, vase-shaped pillars, fusée and gut line, short three-wheel train with 5-leaf pinions, verge escapement, circular foliot, silver cock, worm and wheel set-up with silver plate and index hand, signed Dial: White enamel on gold with light blue centre Case: Outer: two-body, leather-covered, decorated with gold rivets, the centre with elaborate initials made from small rivets, box hinge. Inner: two-body, deep back overlaid with light blue enamel, curved edges, the centre of the back with a finely painted portrait miniature of Louis XIV within a fine grisaille floral frame, gold split bezel, small pendant, inner case 32.4 mm. diam. With: Gilt pinwork decorated leather-covered gilt brass outer protective case, 37.2 mm. diam.
