PAYNE, Thomas (1719-1799) & Son -- A Catalogue of near thirty thousand volumes of curious and rare Books, in which are included the libraries of John Danville, the Rev. Dr. Charlton, and the Rev. Mr. Beachcroft and many other collections lately purchased... which will be sold, for Ready Money only, this Day 1777, and continue on Sale till all are sold London, [28 January] 1777. [ Bound with: ] A Catalogue of a very Large and Curious Collection of Books; including the libraries of Jonathan Scot, Esq.; the Rev. Mr. Laxton, and many other collections... which will begin selling this Day, 1786, at the Prices printed in the Catalogue . London, 1786. Two volumes in one, 8 o (202 x 125 mm). (Some pale browning.) Disbound. Two of the annual fixed price catalogues, issued by "Honest Tom Payne" whose shop became "the favourite place of resort for the literati of the day, and... became known as the Literary Coffeehouse" (DNB). Munby & Coral record three copies of the 1777 catalogue, two of the 1786 catalogue, none in the United States. RLIN lists only microform copies.
