Provenance : Collection Alphonse Moulinier, son cachet (L.3257) en bas à droite Commentaire : Nous pouvons rapprocher notre dessin de celui de la Pierpont Morgan Library représentant 'Abraham et Sarah' (voir Georges Marlier 'Pieter Coeck d'Alost', Bruxelles, 1966, p. 367, fig.311). Anciennement donné à Pieter Coecke, ce dessin est aujourd'hui donné à l'atelier du maître entre l'influence de Coecke et de Swart von Groningen. L'existence d'un autre dessin pour un vitrail représentant 'Agar dans le désert', (Philadelphia Museum of Art) et la réapparition de ce dessin inédit donne l'impression d'un cycle plus complet sur l'histoire d'Abraham et Agar (voir F.Stample, 'Netherlandish drawings of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and flemish drawings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in the Pierpont Morgan Library', New York, 1991, p. 29-30, n°52, pl. 52 et fig. 35).
