Engraved plan of the labyrinth, and 40 engraved plates by Sebastian Leclerc. 19th-century red morocco gilt, by Raparlier. Provenance : Thibaut (inscription on verso of title and colophon page); acquired from John Landwehr, 1963. FIRST EDITION. The labyrinth of Versailles was a maze in the Gardens of Versailles. Charles Perrault advised Louis XIV to included 39 different fountains and sculptures, each depicting one of Aesop's fables. The work is intended as a guide for the visitor of the labyrinth in the garden in Versailles, and for anyone who is interested in the design of the labyrinth. The labyrinth was removed in 1778.
