PERRAULT, CHARLES]. Cinderella; or The Little Glass Slipper. London: Printed for S. and J. Fuller, Temple of Fancy 1814. Square 16mo, 24 pp., original printed drab wrappers, in the original printed drab cardboard slipcase (slight wear at top), cloth slipcase. FIRST (AND ONLY) BRITISH EDITION of this paper-doll book, complete with its original interchangeable head, 7 elaborate outline costumes (the second costume figure is hinged in the middle and includes a carriage drawn by horses) and 5 hats, all lithographed and hand-colored as issued; published as a companion to Little Fanny, Little Henry, Little Ellen, Albert the Young Roscius , etc., but the only title in the series actually based upon a traditional children's fairy tale. IN SUPERB COMPLETE CONDITION AND FRIGHTFULLY RARE: not in the Osborne Collection nor in the Herbert Hosmer Collection; Gumuchian 1986, the copy lacking one costume outline and not mentioning hats; Marian Howard, Paper Dolls (1981), the copy illustrated apparently lacking the original slipcase and one hat. d'Alte Welch 987.11 records two copies of a Philadelphia 1815 edition of this version, both lacking figures and in ca . 1825 remainder wrappers.
