Lot of 4 letters written to or related to Robert Todd Lincoln, including: Bradfield, Mrs. J.A.L. ALS, 3pp, La Crosse, Wis., Aug. 22, 1916. Addressed to Hon. Robert T. Lincoln. In this letter, Mrs. Bradfield is asking Lincoln if there is a chance that they could be related, mentioning that her great grandfather was Stephen Todd, and one of his brothers was Robert Todd, which she believes might be Robert Todd Lincoln's grandfather; Howard, G.H. ALS, 1p, "Metropolitan Club, Washington, D.C." April 14, 1918. Addressed to "My dear Mr. Lincoln." In this letter, the author makes reference to The Book of Lincoln, which he had discussed with Lincoln during a meeting at the Chevy Chase Club; plus Duncan, Cameron. ALS, 2pp, Brooklyn, NY, date unknown. Addressed to "My dear Mr. Lincoln." Duncan discusses a series of negro dialect sketches that she had been writing for the Saturday Evening Post, which she had mentioned to Lincoln earlier that day. Duncan also refers to a letter she received from Lincoln's first cousin, Anita Thompson, in which Thompson discusses Ms. Duncan's writings, which she refers to as Malindy, thus indicating to Lincoln that she was friends with his first cousin, Anita. The letter referred to in Duncan's ALS from Anita Thompson, dated July 15, 1924, accompanies the lot as well. The lot is accompanied by a Xerox copy of a 2010 affidavit stating that it was purchased from the Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith Estate. Provenance: Purchased From the Estate of Robert Todd Beckwith, Last Male Descendent of Abraham Lincoln Condition: Letters are legible.
