PETRARCA, Francesco (1304-1374). Il Petrarcha colla spositione di misser Giouanni Andrea Gesualdo . Venice: G.A. et fratelli di Nicolini da Sabbio, 1533. Part 1 only (of 2), 4° (200 x 137mm). With c8 blank (lacks part 2, 76 leaves, and BB2-4, the latter 3 leaves probably censored by the Inquisition, text on V3 r and BB1 v censored, quires BB and HH misbound, top margins cut quite close, a little waterstaining). 18th-century half sheep (a little rubbed). Provenance : Father Pedro de Cascales of Toledo, 1584 (inscription at foot of title recording that he has censored the book on the orders of the Inquisition) - Boston University Libraries (small circular bookplate, deaccession letter provided). First edition with Gesualdo's commentary. Adams P801. And an imperfect copy of Il Petrarca con nuoue spositioni (Venice: Giorgio Angelieri, 1586). Adams P835. (2)
