Petrus de Palude's Sermones Martin Flach, 1491 PETRUS DE PALUDE (c.1275-1342). Sermones thesauri novi de tempore. Strasbourg: Martin Flach, 1491. [Bound with:] –Sermones Thesauri novi de sanctis. Strasbourg: Martin Flach, 1491. Popular sermon collection, in a contemporary binding. Known collectively as the Thesaurus novus, these sermons became attributed in the 16th century to the 14th-century French Dominican Petrus de Palude. A late medieval theologian in the tradition of Thomas Aquinas, Petrus was appointed titular patriarch of Jerusalem in 1329, and bishop of Couserans in 1337. Blue and red initials, paragraph marks, capital strokes, and flourishes (toning and dampstaining, some worming and chipping at paper edges, other stains, large closed tear affecting text on R3). Contemporary Erfurt brown-stained blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards [EBDB w002487, Löwe nach rechts I], brass catchplates and straps, brass cornerpieces (worming, joints cracked but sturdy). Provenance: Reiffenstein, monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary (inscription dated 1638) – Berlin, Royal Library (stamps, including duplicate stamp) – acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, Inc, New York, 16 May 1955.
