Photo album of a female-soldier (or a soldier?) serving in the 329 Palestine W/Shop Coy. R.E.M.E.. Egypt, Italy and Libya, 1942-1945. The album contains unique photos, including two large photos of Operation Avalanche – invasion of the Allies into Italy (September 1943) – one photo features forces disembarking on shore and the other portrays soldiers marching with equipment after arrival in Salerno; numerous photos of Tel El Kabir, 1944-1945; photo of shells after the El-Alamein battle, October 1942; Kassassin, Egypt, Tubruk 1942 (North Libya); photos of the Victory Parade on "Victory Day" against Germany in Tel El Kabir camp; photos of tanks and Stuka dive-bombers out of action in El Daba after the second El Alamein battle (October-November 1942); ruins in Capuzzo, on Egypt-Libya border; S-Camp soccer team, 1944; group photos of Tel El Kabir officers, Egypt; group photos of other Electrical and Mechanical Engineers companies (529) and of friends in 329 company; photos of current operations where soldiers are seen maintaining and fixing weapons which were used by infantry forces. In the years 1942-1944 a significant section of the REME forces was spread in Eretz Israel and in Egypt, the home front of battles in the Western Desert, Greece and Italy. In June 1942 Eretz Israeli boys and girls started to enlist to this force joined by 600 Egyptian Jews. During the year of 1943 four Jewish companies were established in REME, to which proficient craftsmen in the area of precision mechanics, optics and maintenance of mechanical equipment and heavy weapons were recruited. 133 photos, size varies: 3X5 cm to 18X23 cm. Most of the photos 6.5X9.5 cm. Some annotated photos. Fair-good condition. Some of the photos are pasted to the album leaf with adhesive tape or with glue. Album 24X34 cm, leather-like binding with a copper-relief (map of Eretz Israel). Good condition.
