Davis dressed as a mime costume, taken slightly out-of-focus and giving a movement motion effect with hands and face in different positions. 10x8" loosely placed inside plastic corner mounts on card-stock backing and folding front matting. The famed San Francisco Mime Troupe, founded by R.G. Davis in 1959, began performing in local parks and used the classical Commedia dell'arte style to satirize the times. In 1963, the Park and Recreation Commission denied the Mime Troupe a permit and Davis was arrested for defying the ban. With the help of the ACLU, the Company won the right to perform in the parks, beginning more than four decades of free outdoor public performances. In 1968, the Mime Troupe won its first OBIE Award for "uniting theater and revolution and grooving in the park." Also, during the 1960's, Piaskowski, a noted San Francisco photographer, documented the famed San Francisco Mime Troupe with her photographs. Piaskowski was also friends with fellow photographers Ansel Adams Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham Her photographs are held in museums throughout the United States. Lot Amendments Condition: Fine.
