early 1850s, the first a tinted daguerreotype portrait by Richard Lowe, Promenade, Cheltenham, embossed wood and leather case with photographer's gilt stamp, the second by an unknown photographer of a young lady with ringlets, plain leather case with button closure, both a little rubbed at corners Richard Lowe was originally employed as a manager of Beard's Photographic Institution in Cheltenham. He then operated the studio under his own name from 1850 until 1856, when he ran up considerable debts in local shops, caught a train to Liverpool and was never heard of again.
