Title: Phytographie Medicale, ornee de figures coloriees de grandeur naturelle...Tome Second Author: Roques, Joseph Place: Paris Publisher: Chez L'Auteur Date: 1821 Description: Volume 2 only (of 2). [iv], 328 pp. 71 (of 90) plates, printed in color and finished by hand. (4to) 30.5x23 cm (12x9") old boards, red leather spine label lettered in gilt. First Edition. Describing medicinal, poisonous, and narcotic plants, as well as their remedies. Joseph Roques born in Valance, studied at the University of Montpellier and later moved to Paris were he acquired the reputation of an eminent botanist. Hocquart drew and engraved the fine plates which were then color-printed and finished by hand. According to Brunet the work was issued in 36 parts from 1821-25. Brunet IV 1388; Johnson Cleveland Collections 855; Nissen BBI 1673. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbed, foot of spine pulled; fore edge bumped; foxing. The lacking plates do not appear to have ever been bound in. Offered as a collection of plates, not subject to return. Item number: 251925
