Picturesque Palestine, Sinai and Egypt, edited by Charles W. Wilson. London: J.S. Virtue and Co. [ca. 1880-1884]. Four volumes. English. Detailed and comprehensive guidebook to Palestine, written by a number of expert scholars. Detailed engravings on each page showing the area's landscapes, the garb of its residents, their customs and more, as well as 42 engraved plates and two large maps, in color (map of Palestine and a map of Sinai and Egypt). Volume I: X (leaves are bound out of order), 240 pp + [10] plates. Volume II: VI, 240 pp + [12] plates. Volume III: VI, 240 pp + [11] plates and [1] map (on a double plate). Volume IV: VI, 236 pp + [9] plates and [1] map (on a double plate), 32 cm. Gilt edges. Good condition. Stains and defects (mainly to first pages of the volumes). Original bindings, with defects, peelings and rubbing (mainly at corners, spines and margins). Provenance: Collection of Hermann Meyer and his daughter Channah Sapir.
