Erste Ausgabe der Reisebeschreibung von Indien. - Der britische Maler Thomas Daniell (1749-1840), Absolvent der Royal Academy , bereiste 1786-93 zusammen mit seinem Neffen William Daniell ausgiebig den indischen Subkontinent, "venturing forward than any previous artist and drawing unrivalled views of the scenery and architecture of the exotic land .. William Daniell was noted for his Madras panoramas, executed for his Picturesque voyages .." (Howgego I, 299). Die schönen Ansichten und Kostümtafeln zeigen neben Indien vor allem auch Szenen aus China, Japan und Malaysien, ferner Java, Kap der Guten Hoffnung und Madeira, dazu Eindrücke von der Reise (Sturm, Äquatortaufe, Albatros). - Die Tafeln auf angefalztem Karton gedruckt, Text auf kräftigem Whatman-Papier. - Leicht gebräunt und fleckig. First edition. With 50 colored mezzotint plates after Royal Academy painter Thomas Daniell and his nephew William who travelled extensively in India during 1786-93. Later red morocco (signed Bayntun binder, Bath Eng) with gilt decoration on spine and boards as well as gilt edges. Oblong plates and text, bound in upright format. - Slightly tanned and foxed. Hinges slightly scraped, front board only slightly stained. Good copy in a decorative binding.
