Pierre Eugene Montezin French, 1874-1946 La Promenade des Anglais Signed Montezin (lr) Oil on paper backed by canvas Image 26 x 33 1/2 inches (66 x 85.1 cm) Canvas 28 3/4 x 36 3/8 inches (73 x 92.4 cm) Provenance: Arthur Tooth & Sons, Ltd., London [Sale] Maitre Etienne ADER, Palais Galliera, Paris, Mar. 21, 1963 Cyril Klein-Montezin has confirmed that this is an original work by his great grand-father Pierre Eugene Montezin. The work is listed in his archives. C
The paper was edged with papertape and appears only to be backed by canvas by the artist. There may be areas of adhesion to the canvas, but this is difficult to determine. The painting could use a light cleaning. There is a 2 inch tear at the far right center. Craquelure in the sky at far right. There is a repaired 8 inch vertical tear, with inpainting, at lower left. Spots of inpainting in 2 x 1 1/2 inch area at far right center. Unable to detect further restoration.
