He dates the painting to the second half of the 1530s. The underdrawing is typical for Coecke van Aelst and comparable with the underdrawing he used for the wing of the St. Truiden Altar (see D. H. van Wegen, P. van den Brink, Uitgelicht 5: Pieter Coecke van Aelst De Intocht in Jeruzalem. Retabelfragmenten in Diaspora, ‘tijdelijk weer bijen’, Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht 2000).
