Piguet Meylan. A magnificent and rare 18K gold, enamel, pearl and turquoise-set quarter repeating centre seconds musical watch, made for the Chinese Market Signed Piguet Meylan, No. 6530, circa 1820 With gilt-finished cylinder movement, plain three arm brass balance, repeating on two hammers, musical pin barrel, music stop/start lever underneath the cuvette, the gold cuvette decorated with finely polychrome champlevé enamel trophy of flowers, the eccentric white enamel dial with Roman numerals, centre seconds, in massive circular case with split pearl-set and translucent brown and turquoise stylized flower petals decorated bezel, pendant and bow, the reverse with brown and green enamel, alternating turquoise and pearl-set decoration symbolizing a blooming flower, the band with alternating turquoise and brown enamel and split pearl-set floral decoration, quarter repeating through the pendant, music and automaton activated by a sliding lever in the band, case numbered 6530 throughout, movement stamped PM in a lozenge and numbered 6530 twice underneath the dial 55 mm. diam.
