Pike, of the United States Army, in the years 1805 and 1806. Compiled from Mr. Pike's Journal. [Washington, D.C., 1807]. 12 o (203 x 107 mm). Large folding engraved map of the Mississippi River by Francis Shallus after Nicholas King (few tiny splits along folds, some browning and pale staining). Modern calf. FIRST EDITION OF THIS SCARCE PAMPHLET, which was "probably written by Nicholas King and follows closely Pike's journal. King's name appears on the map (which is not always present with the pamphlet) and there is a copy of the text in the Library of Congress wholly in King's handwriting... Some surving copies of the pamphlet lack the last two leaves of text..." (Graff 3289). The present copy is complete with all the text. Howes P372; Sabin 62835; Wagner-Camp 9 (notes).
