PIRANESI, Giovanni Battista (1720-1778) the book in four volumes, 1756, First Edition, published by Bouchard & Gravier, Rome, lacking several plates, very fine, early impressions, watermarks mainly Fleur-de-Lys in Double Circle (R. 37, dated 1760-early 1700s), some Fleur-de-Lys in Single Circle with Initial V (probably R. 11, dated 1770s-early 1780s), the endpapers slightly later, with watermarks Large Coat-of-Arms with Princely Crown and Fleur-de-Lys in Single Circle with Initials AMGS (R. 20, dated late 1770s-1790s), the full sheets, with decked edges, a few sheets with minor moisture staining, generally in very good condition, all bound in original parchment-backed Italian boards with title on spine (worn) Overall: 22 3/4 x 17 3/4in. Volume I : 78 etchings including title page (second state), initials and vignettes, with letterpress title page by Bouchard & Gravier, justification dated 25 January 1756, the price list of Piranesi's works verso (with the price for the Vedute di Roma corrected in pen and ink), text in Italian, indices and inventory (Wilton-Ely 279, 280, 288-290, 286, 281, 287, 292-344, 347, 346, 345, 349, 348-352, 282, 353, 354, 284, 355-358, 285). Volume II : 44 etchings including title page (second state) and etched list of plates (Wilton-Ely 359, 361-366, 368, 371, 373-380, 383-389, 393-395, 397, 399, 400, 402, 405, 407, 408-413, 415, 416, 418-420). Volume III : 25 etchings including title page (second state) (Wilton-Ely 421, 423, 424, 429, 433, 436, 437, 440, one plate by an unidentified etcher [plate XXI] and four plates by G.
