[Plantin Press - Emblems] VAN HAEFTEN, Benedictus, O.S.B. Regia via crucis. Antwerp, Plantin Press (B. Moretus), 8vo: xl-(of 404)-[26-2 bl.] pp. (f. E8 missing, lower bl. corner of ff. Q5-6 repaired; some light marginal soiling). 19th-c. gilt polished calf signed N. Marlière, covers with triple gilt-ruled frame and gilt corner pieces (some sm. stains, corners rubbed), gilt orn. spine with 5 raised bands (head, tail, joints and bands lightly rubbed), black leather title label, gilt-ruled sides, gilt inside dentelles, marbled endpapers. Good copy in a nice binding. First edition of this devotional emblem book on the theme of the Holy Cross, by the Affligem Benedictine monk B. Van Haeften (1588-1648). Engr. title after a design by P.P. Rubens and (of engr. emblems by C. Galle. Woodcut mark at the end. Ref.
