Platinum, Gold, Sapphire and Diamond Bracelet and Pendant-Pin, Cartier 8 cushion-cut sapphires ap. 20.00 cts., old European, single & baguette diamonds ap. 14.50 cts., signed Cartier, c. 1935, ap. 26.7 dwts. Length 6 1/2 inches. Born in 1888 in New York, Elizabeth "Betty" Dresser was a native of New York and a descendant of generations of New Englanders. She was an independent and active New York educator and socialite whose life spanned the days of the horse and buggy to the jet age. The granddaughter of inventor and industrialist, Gates Curtis, Mrs. Dresser independently established and operated two private schools between 1913 and 1962. She was only 25 when she established the successful and well-reputed Foxwood School. At the outbreak of World War II she opened a second school, Foxwood Kings Point in the former Florence Alker Estate mansion "Idlewilde". Foxwood Kings Point created a boarding school, including international students who had been stranded by the outbreak of the war. The school is believed to be the first American private co-ed high school offering boarding facilities for both sexes. This lovely sapphire and diamond bracelet by Cartier was acquired and worn by Mrs. Dresser and remained with her family following her death in 1970 until now. C Estate of Elizabeth C. Sapphires: medium cornflower blue color, light-medium saturation, moderately included, two stones with minor chipping, one stone closest to the clasp with moderate chip Diamonds: G-H majority, few I color/ VS-SI Overall in good condition, with minor surface scratching and indentations to metal. Sapphires set in 18k gold. Width of bracelet: 1 inch Pendant-Pin measuring 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches Originally the pendant-pin was a link on the bracelet which could be converted back to extend length of bracelet.
