Title within a woodcut architectural border (2 wormholes in the text diminishing to one as far as O2, another in the fore-margin as far as S4, title a little discoloured). Old-style calf by Fazakerley of Liverpool. Provenance : Thomas Skeffington (late sixteenth-century signature on title and a Greek quotation at head of title, possibly in his hand). Adams P1499. PORCACCHI, Tommaso. Funerali antichi di diuersi popoli, et nationi . Venice: [Simon Galignani], 1574. 4° (266 X 197mm). Engraved title and 23 engravings in the text by Girolamo Porro woodcut device on penultimate page (most corners very waterstained). 18th-century mottled calf (rebacked, slightly worn). FIRST EDITION of Porcacchi's description of funeral rites of the ancient world including those of the Indians, Scythians and Herulians (Germans). (2)
