Parisiis, Impensis Societatis, 1741 3 Vols Folio, 385x235 mm; contemporary quarter vellum binding, gilt title on label at the spine, red sprayed edges. Vol. 1: Tomus primus, pp. [28], 788, 1 folded map., 8 Plates, numbered I-VIII. Vol. 2: Tomus Secundus, pp. 568. Vol. 3: pp. 569-835, 1 b.; Title-page ‘Tomi II. pars altera’, pp. 836-1279, [1], 3 Plates numbered IX-XI. A total of a folded map and 11 plates out of text, all engraved in copper.
An important and rare edition by the French Jesuit Jean Hardouin. It is also of numismatic interest with the 11 tables that reproduce ancient coins. The large folded paper covers Arabia and the Middle East and represents the 'Flumina quatuor Paradisi Terrestris'.Pages with uniform browning for ink quality, plates in good condition. Importante e rara edizione a cura del gesuita francese Jean Hardouin. Opera di interesse anche numismatico con le 11 tavole che riproducono monete antiche. La grande carta ripiegata riguarda l’Arabia e il Medio oriente e raffigura i ‘Flumina quatuor Paradisi Terrestris’.L’opera tratta anche dell’incendio del Vesuvio. Furchheim p.237. Pagine con uniforme brunitura per la qualità dell’inchiostro, tavole in buone stato di conservazione.
