POE, EDGAR ALLAN. Autograph letter signed ("Edgar A Poe") to Joseph H. Hedge; Philadelphia, 16 November 1843. 1 page, 4to, 252 x 201 mm. (9 3/4 x 7 7/8 in.), integral address leaf addressed by Poe simply to "Jos H. Hedges Esq. Phila." and initialled "EAP." in lower left-hand corner, red circular Philadelphia postmark, remains of small wax seal, very slight repair to seal hole, otherwise in fine condition. "My dear Sir, I presume the request you make, in your note of the 14th, has reference to my Grandfather Gen: David Poe, & not to my father David Poe, Jr. I regret to say, however, that, owing to peculiar circumstances, I have in my possession no autograph of either. Very Resp[ectfull]y Yr. Ob[edien]t S[ervan]t. Edgar A Poe." Partially published in J. Ostrom Letters , no. 165 (from a description in a catalogue of Stan Henkels, 1907).
