PORCACCHI, Tommaso (1530-1576) - Funerali antichi di diversi popoli, et nationi. Venice: Simon Galignani de Karera, 1574. First edition. The illustrations by Girolamo Porro at the opening of each chapter reproduce scenes of funeral ceremonies according to the custom of the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, troglodytes, Indians, Scythians and Christians. Nine of the engravings are inspired by Woeiriot's figures from the "Pinax iconicus antiquorum" published in Lyon in 1556. Folio (262 x 199mm). Engraved title, 23 half-page engraved illustrations by Girolamo Porro printer's device at end (internal margin reinforced). Antique limp vellum, later manuscript title on spine (new endpapers, extremities rubbed, some chipping to spine). Provenance: Tiffany (bookseller's ticket).
