Title: Postcard album, collected from a trip around the world Author: ** Place: Publisher: Date: [1900-1920] Description: With 153 postcards, of which 146 are photographic (25 in color and 2 are silver-prints) and 7 chromo or color lithographs); also, a printed photograph frontispiece portrait of Luigi di Savoia dated 1903 and a laid-in silver-print photograph of a life-size stone-wall etching of Christopher Columbus chained at the ankles dated 1915; plus, a hand-drawn map of the world showing the travel route around the world starting and ending in Italy, folding and inked on thin white linen (24x60.7 cm). Postcards mostly measure 3½x5½" (some are larger), loosely inserted on 38 leaves with pre-cut corner holders. 10¾x8, decorative gold-tan thin boards over cloth spine. A personal postcard album representing a trip around the world during the early twentieth century, beginning and ending in Italy. Most of the places visited include various popular island destinations, with small villages, farms, harbors, monuments, buildings, people and natives, etc. Images include: Liguria sailing vessel, Barbados, Honduras, New Orleans, Philadelphia, New York, Cambridge, Porto Rico, St. Thomas, Pointe-a-Pitre (Martinique), Trinidad, Brazil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Chile, Peru, a bull-fighting scene (chromolithograph), Acapulco, San Francisco (including Sutro Baths), Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, Philippines (including Manila), Hong Kong, Thailand (including several Siamese women), Singapore, Batavia, Sumatra, Rangoon, Burma (one of elephants in a jungle and some of temples and mosques), Colombo, Ceylon, Alexandria, Egypt, Gibraltar, Paris, etc. The two silver-print photograph postcards in the back are of residences in Haddon Heights, New Jersey (captioned in the negative), with one showing two old Model-T cards in front. Nearly all postcards with mailing stamps postmarked from 1904 to 1921 and have inked correspondence on the versos. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing and edge wear, nicks, spine leaning a bit; hinges cracked, first two leaves and free endpapers; hand-made map showing the trip somewhat worn with small chips, foxing and repairs; postcards with some rubbing and other light wear (including occasional tiny stains); else contents very good in a good but presentable album.
