Includes: Grove Camp near Newberne, N.C.; one with rows of log cabins with chimneys; label on verso with Dead Union Soldier on the Field at Gettysburg, Showing Effect of a Shell;and on recto in lower margin: Capt. Henry Wirz. Superintending the burial of dead union soldiers in trenches, near the Andersonville Prison pen, Wirz stands at the side of the trench with cap on. He was a red headed dutchman and very cruel to the prisoners and the only man executed after the war; on verso label there is a manuscript note in red ink on a label with similar note to above, "Leander Farnham, Company A, 1st Vermont Artillery, August 16, 1864, Riddle Photo." It is unclear to what the note refers, but Leander B. Farnham of the 1st VT Heavy Artillery died of disease as a POW at Andersonville (gravesite 5851). This could be his burial. Condition: All with some water stains along margins. Most don't impact prints. There are a few stains along right lower side of last.Second with two spots in the sky that appear to be tape residue.
