POUND, Ezra. A Draft of XXX Cantos . Paris: Hours Press, 1930. 8 o. Original cloth (spine lightly rubbed, light spotting to endpapers). Provenance : Milton Abernethy (presentation inscription). FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 158 of 200 copies on Canson-Mongolfier Soleil velin M.R.V. paper, of an edition of 212. (See lot 259 for the one of 10 issue on Texas Mountain paper). PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY POUND TO MILTON ABERNETHY on the front free endpaper: "Abernethy Bene meritus from E.P. 13 June anno X," the date referring to the tenth year of the Mussolini regime. Abernethy began running the Intimate Bookshop as a senior at the University of North Carolina in 1931. He was also the editor of Contempo magazine at the time. Between 1931 and 1933, Pound contributed seven letters, essays and notes to Contempo , and was among the earliest contributing editors. Gallup A31a.
