Original grey boards, upper and lower boards printed with designs after Dorothy Shakespear Pound (spine and outer areas of boards somewhat faded, a few minor marks, extremities a little rubbed). Provenance : Walter Arthur Donnelly (bookplate on upper pastedown)--sale, Swann, 16 October 1997, lot 18. FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 500 COPIES. FIRST APPEARANCE IN BOOK FORM OF 'THE LOVE SONG OF ALFRED J. PRUFROCK', and any of Eliot's poetry. In addition to 'The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock', Catholic Anthology contains Eliot's 'Portrait of a Lady', 'The Boston Evening Transcript', 'Hysteria' (first printed here), and 'Miss Helen Slingsby [i.e. 'Aunt Helen']; with the addition of 'Preludes [I-IV]', 'Rhapsody on a Windy Night', 'Morning at the Window', 'Cousin Nancy', 'Mr Apollinax', 'Conversation galante' and 'La figlia che piange', these five poems formed the content of Prufrock and Other Observations (London: 1917). As well as Eliot, the anthology includes poems by W.B. Yeats, Harriet Monroe, Harold Monro, William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound, Orrick Johns and others.
