Date: 1833 Description: 116 pp. With 59 (of 60) engraved plates. (4to) 27.5x22 cm (11x8½") period vellum-backed calf. First Edition. Benjamin (1773-1845) American architect and author " whose work transitioned between Federal style architecture and the later Greek Revival which eventually evolved to Late Colonial" produced "seven handbooks on design which deeply influenced the look of cities and towns throughout New England until the Civil War. Builders also copied his plans in the Midwest and in the South." Lot Amendments Condition: Plate V not present. Fair amount of wear, rubbing and soiling to binding, corners worn, front board and first two blank leaves detached but present, previous owner's perforated stamp at bottom of title page, moderate and occasionally heavy foxing throughout, affecting plates though mostly mildly; good.
