Letter signed as President, "To the Senate and House of Representatives," [Washington, D.C.], 13 December 1883. 1 page, folio, lined paper, edged browned, an imposing letter by which President Arthur transmits an official request that Congress "authorize the printing and binding for the use of the Signal Office...5000 copies of the Annual Report of the Chief Signal Officer..." -- JAMES BUCHANAN Autograph letter signed as Senator, to William Hickey, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 25 September 1838, 1 page, 4to, faint mat burn at extreme edges , with autograph free frank on integral address leaf in Buchanan's hand, "I feel much indebted to you for your kind attention in forwarding me the documents & Mr. [Henry] Clay's speech on the Sub Treasury..." --JAMES A.
