York, Wheatland, near Lancaster [Pa.], 28 March 1853, one page, 4to, integral blank, regarding a newspaper publisher who "is about to sell the Register to the old cronies of W. Stergire(?) who proposed to write the two papers. He says he will do this most reluctantly but that his necessities compel him...He complains that the true Democrats of Montgomery will lend him no assistance...& seem to take but little interest in the matter..." --MONROE, JAMES. Document signed as President, Washington, D.C., 24 January 1818, one page, oblong 4to, on vellum, large engraved vignette at top left , accomplished in manuscript, granting land in the "Territory of Illinois" to a veteran, "late a Private in Sandford's Company..." --ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. Typed letter signed to F.G. Scott of Longmans, Green & Co., Washington, D.C., 7 January 1909, one page, 4to, integral blank, on printed White House stationery, with original stamped envelope, thanking Scott for a book, the Portraiture of Julius Caesar ; Typed letter signed as Governor, to The Century Association, Oyster Bay, N.Y., 3 August 1988, one page, oblong 4to, on Governor's imprinted stationery , forwarding tardy payment of his membership fee.
