Autograph letter signed as President TO DANIEL WEBSTER, Washington, 11 September 1851. 1 page, 4to, integral blank, forwarding an application for a consular post from a man who claims "there are no papers on file against him." Fillmore is certain "there was some complaint against him," but he "is gentlemanly in his appearance and in delicate health....My sympathies are excited for him," and "if you concur, I will give him the appointment...." --MONROE, JAMES. Autograph letter signed to George Graham Oak Hill, 8 October 1825, 1 page, 4to, integral address leaf, recommending a West Point appointment for the son of a Virginia neighbor, Richard P. Bayly, and urging Graham to interview the young man--BUCHANAN, JAMES. Autograph letter signed to P.H. Nicklin, Washington, D.C., 19 June 1838, 1 page, 4to, integral blank : "...In my opinion, the International Copy Right Bill will not pass, & may probably not be considered, during the present session [of Congress]" -- CLEVELAND, GROVER.
