Rorie, Washington, D.C., 26 March 1869, one page, large folio, ON FINE PARCHMENT, accomplished in manuscript, eagle vignette at top, large vignette of Neptune, ships and sea gods at bottom with ship's cannon and flags, papered seal, Grant's signature pale, appointing William H. Emory a Master in the Navy -- THEODORE, ROOSEVELT. Engraved document signed in full as President, Washington, D.C., 22 January 1902, one page, large folio, ON FINE PARCHMENT, identical to the previous, appointing Emory a Captain in the Navy -- GROVER CLEVELAND. Engraved document signed in full as President, Washington, D.C., 3 March 1888, one page, large folio, ON FINE PARCHMENT, identical to the previous, appointing Emory a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. Emory was apparently a son and namesake of the distinguished Civil War Army officer Willaim Helmsley Emory (1811-1887). (3)
