PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES]. TAFT, William Howard Autograph letter signed ("Wm H Taft") as President, to Dr. Mitchell, Washington, 9 November 1912. 2 pages, 4to, on White House Stationery . A wonderful letter written shortly after Taft's defeat in the 1912 presidential election: "I am not cast down in this hour of defeat for we did succeed in keeping our country from the real peril of Rooseveltianism. I leave the White House with the hope that I have done some things which may prove useful to the country and the people." -- WILSON, Woodrow. Typed letter signed ("Woodrow Wilson") as President, to the Missouri delegation, Washington, 25 June 1914. 1 page, 4to, on White House stationery . Wilson thanks the delegation for their support and a paper, "The paper which you sent is of the sort that makes a man carrying the responsibilities of public life very proud and very grateful." -- COOLIDGE, Calvin.
