Bowers, n.p., 14 April l847, 1 full page, 4to, integral address leaf with panel in Pierce's hand, on pale blue paper, sending "seven new recruits [who are named]...You will find them excellent men. Burnham can command $40 or $50 per month and there will not be a better man than Chapman in the Regt. They both want a leave of absence for reasons they will explain to you for a day or two. They are true men & you can place implicit confidence in them....I do not send the papers because the certificates are not signed. I have paid the bounties to all of these men out of my own pocket...." -- CLEVELAND, GROVER.
