Requesting on "the Queen's" behalf that "you [Sir Martin] send all the letters in your possedssion and which you have translated of my Father's, relating to the divers attacks made upon the Queen", in order to copy them and mentioning his having "to appear at the Old Bailey when O'Connor's Trial comes on. The man is no more mad than I am, and I am quite convinced that he is merely a cats' paw for some others, he is a very meak and sickly looking boy but has a very intelligent face." (4 March 1872). Also mentioning the purchase of "autographs going to be sold next month" (18 March 1869) and thanking him for sending him that fine autograph of the great German poet [?Goethe], it will form a most valuable addition to my collection" (18 March 1870). Two autograph letters signed ("Victoria Empress Frederick" and "V. Empress Frederick" [after her marriage to Frederick III, German Emperor and King of Prussia, on 25 January 1858]) to Sir Theodore Martin, together 5 pages, 8, from Berlin, on monogramed 'Victoria' headed paper, 1 February and 14 February 1890 thanking him for the "valuable volume 'the True Life of Shakespeare'" (1 February 1890). Three autograph letters signed ("Helen") [Princess Helene of Waldeck prior to her marriage to Leopold on 27 April 1882], to Sir Theodore and Lady Martin, 12pp., 8, on monogramed 'H' Claremont, Esher and Villa Nevada, Cannes headed papers, 13 August 1887, 2 April 1891 and 11 November 1908 mourning the death of "Sir Robert". "I dare not mourn, when the Angel of God passed into my House. I was thankful and felt it was a friend bringing a good gift. Yet this does not stop the heart-ache for the "Entbehren" (the German only expresses the emptyness of "missing".) - Sir Robert ever strove to make me stand alone, but the gulf between the "mourning" and the "doing" is great. Prince Alexander helps me with devoted care of son and friend and I know Sir Robert trusted and relied on that.- My faithful servant has joined his friend after nearly 25 years separations and I will rejoice to think of them united."
