The Order for the Administration of the Holy Communion, to which are prefixed the Tables of Feasts and Fasts, and Kalendar... also the Order for Confirmation of Children, and the Form for the Solemnization of Holy Matrimony... and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests and Deacons, According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland..., printed at the Chiswick Press for Thomas Bosworth, 1867, printed throughout in red and black (including musical notation), a number of leaves with hand coloured and illuminated detail, comprising a full-page printed illustration of the crucifixion, additional calligraphic title, initial letters and line fillers, the borders of one opening, and a printed tail-piece, intermittent light spotting (mostly to first and final leaves), preliminary blank with calligraphic inscription, circular ink stamp of Gloucester Cathedral Library on front and rear free endpapers, with Cancel stamp on former, marbled pastedowns, all edges gilt, contemporary bevel-edged red morocco, extremities rubbed (with some minor wear to spine ends and corners), roundel roll decorated raised bands, first and sixth compartments with repeated fleur-de-lys tool within diamond trellis, remainder with fleur-de-lys quatrefoil tool within a border of crosses, covers divided into four by a gilt cross and four diamond trellis panels incorporating repeated dot and roundel tool, within a border of flower rolls and fillets, central pointed oval green leather onlay, tooled with 'monogram IHS', and green onlaid cornerpieces gilt tooled with the symbols of the four Evangelists, gilt rope roll on edges, turn-ins with repeated gilt star tool between fillets and hound's tooth rolls, folio With calligraphic inscription in black and red ink on preliminary blank: 'This Altar book was bequeathed to the Revd. Arthur Wickham Swayne M.A. by the Revd. Thomas Bowles M.A. who entered into his Rest, January 12th 1899. and given by the above A.W. Swayne, on his retirement from parochial work, to the Revd. George Harold Fendick. M.A. 1931'. (1)
