The Constitution of Free-Masonry, or Ahiman Rezon, containing, among other useful information, the Laws, Charges, & Regulations of the Free and Accepted Masons, according to the old Institutions; to which is added, a Selection of Masonic Songs, revised and corrected, with considerable additions, from the original of the late Laurence Dermott, Esq. by Thomas Harper, D.G.M., 7th edition, London: Printed by Brother T. Harper Jun. for the Editor, 1807, half-title, engraved frontispiece and dedication, dust-soiling and spotting throughout, marbled endpapers with front free endpaper replaced, all edges gilt, contemporary maroon straight grain morocco possibly by John Lovejoy (1749-1818), elaborate gilt decoration including masonic motifs, upper board with "Lodge No. 202. Ancient York Masons, Gibralter" in gilt, 8vo The decorative motifs on this binding appear to include examples used on bindings by the bookbinder John Lovejoy. See British Library Database of Bookbindings shelfmark C155a8 and also Bodleian Library shelfmark Broxb. 75.18. John Lovejoy was a Mason and one of seven English binders who regularly produced bindings of this style. (1)
