The sale of c.12,000 prints alone lasted for 26 days, of which 5 were devoted to Rembrandt and included nearly 450 prints attributed to him. Barnard had intended to leave his collection to John Wilkes, M.P. but changed his mind when he discovered that his wife was having an affair with Wilkes.
