Beschreibung:

PRIVATE PRESS] SHAKESPEARE, WILLIAM. The Works ... Darmstadt: Ernst Ludwig Presse, 1925-1931. The edition varies between 250 and 200 copies. Seven volumes, original orange morocco, top edge gilt, in remains of the original slipcase. 11 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches (28 x 19 cm); various paginations; designed and with initial lettering by Christian Heinrich Kleukens. Spines darkened, some rubbing and chipping along joints. All published of one of the finest modern editions of Shakespeare in English, produced under the direction of Christian Heinrich Kleukens. In the dedication Kleukens notes that this handsome edition was produced as an homage to T.J. Cobden-Sanderson and the German editions of Goethe printed at the Doves Press. This is a deluxe or possibly a custom binding; though not signed, it looks like the work of Frieda Thiersch. Rodenberg Deutche Pressen p.105. 16 volumes were projected (note under Kleukens-Presse).
