PROUST, Marcel (1871-1922). A la Recherche du Temps perdu: Du Côté de Chez Swann . Paris: Bernard Grasset, 1914 [wrapper dated 1913]. 8° (190 x 118mm). Half-title, last 4 leaves of advertisements. Original yellow printed wrappers (marginally torn), in modern cloth box. PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED IN AUTOGRAPH 'A Madame la Princesse Bibesco. Homage et respectueuse admiration. Marcel Proust' on front free endpaper. The work was issued by Grasset on 14 November 1913 in an edition of 1,750 copies. Proust wrote to Princess Marthe Bibesco in late January, 1914, to say that she was among the first two or three people to whom he had sent a copy of Swann . She had in fact already seen Emmanuel Bibesco's copy, and discovered her own on her return to Paris.
