QUATRE ALBUMS (NUMERO 29, 30, 31 ET 32) DE "LIAO ZHAI TU SHUO" (CONTES ÉTRANGES DU STUDIO DU LOISIR) À L'ENCRE, OR ET COULEUR SUR PAPIER, CHINE, DÉBUT DU XXe SIÈCLE Dessinés selon un recueil de contes écrit par Pu Songling (1640-1715), décrivant des contes fantastiques faisant intervenir des êtres surnaturels, chaque album comprenant seize double planches, représentant à droite des scènes animées de personnages, et à gauche des poèmes écrits dans deux scripts différents, couvertures en soie et encadrements en bois Dimensions totales : 52 x 38 cm (20 1/2 x 15 in.) FOUR ALBUMS (NUMBER 29, 30, 31 AND 32) OF LIAO ZHAI TU SHUO, INK, GOLD AND COLOR ON PAPER AND WOOD FRAMED SILK COVER, CHINA, EARLY 20th CENTURY Liaozhai Tushuo (contes étranges du studio du loisir) est une version illustrée d'un roman chinois Liao Zhai Zhi Yi écrit par Pu Songling (1640-1715) du début de la dynastie Qing. Une collection de près de cinq cents contes ont été écrits dans la tradition folklorique où la frontière entre la réalité et le fantastique est floue. Les personnages principaux sont à la fois des êtres naturels et surnaturels pour raconter les histoires de la vie réelle des roturiers. Pu écrit sur la corruption, l'immoralité et l'injustice de la société tout en sympathisant avec les pauvres, et en révélant son admiration pour les normes morales confucianes et les principes taoïsmes. Les albums originaux appartiennent à un groupe commandé en 1894 par Xu Run (Xu Yizhang) en cadeau à la l'impératrice Cixi pour la féliciter pour son soixantième anniversaire. Un marchand officiel de Guangdong, Xu a recruté divers artistes pour accomplir cette la mission ambitieuse. Quarante-huit albums ont été créés au total, 420 histoires sur 725 peintures, avec une ou cinq pages attribuées à chaque histoire. Le Musée National de Chine conserve actuellement quarante-six albums dans leur collections de peintures classiques chinoises, voir le Musée National de Chine, Beijing, la galerie S12. Un album a été présentée à Sotheby's Londres, le 14 Mai 2014, lot 159 Liaozhai Tushuo (Strange Stories of a Chinese Studio) is an illustrated version of a chinese novel Liao Zhai Zhi Yi by Pu Songling (1640-1715) during the early Qing dynasty, a collection of nearly five hundred tales. They are written in the folk tradition of oral storytelling where the boundary between reality and the fantastic is blurred. The main characters consist of both natural and supernatural beings to tell the real life stories of commoners. Pu remarked on the corruptness, immorality and injustice of society while sympathising on the poor, while revealing his admiration for Confucian-style moral standards and Daoist principles. The original albums belong to a group commissioned in 1894 by Xu Run (Xu Yizhang) as a gift to the Dowager Empress Cixi to commemorate her sixtieth birthday. An official merchant from Guangdong, Xu enlisted various artists to complete the ambitious task. Forty-eight albums were created in total, which told 420 stories over 725 paintings, with one to five pages allocated to each story. The National Museum of China holds forty-six of the albums, which are on permanent display in Classical Paintings of Ancient China, National Museum of China, Beijing, Gallery S12.
