Quatuor evangelia graece, 1788.
Biblia graeca Quatuor evangelia graece cum variantibus .. Jussu et sumtibus regiis edidit A. Birch. Kopenhagen, J. F. Schultz 1788. "In 1781 and succeeding years Christian VII. of Denmark despatched a small band of distinguished scholars to examine Biblical mss. in foreign libraries. On this errand A. Birch (afterwards a bishop of the Danish Lutheran Church) travelled through Italy and Germany; J. G. C. Adler studied at Rome and elsewhere; and D. G. Moldenhawer, accompanied by the famous Orientalist O. G. Tychsen, visited Spain. The combined results of their investigations were arranged, at the royal command and expense, by Birch, and published in this edition, which presents the text of Stephanus' folio Testament of 1550, with an apparatus of various readings collected by the editor and his associates .. Only one quarto volume, containing the Gospels with some facsimiles, was published. A fire at the Royal Printing-House in 1795 destroyed the type, paper and unsold stock of the first volume, as well as part of the material for the second. Birch collected and published what survived in two octavo volumes .. in 1798 and 1800" (Darlow/Moule). - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris Writers Library London. Aus der Bibliothek Heribert Boeder, Osnabrück mit dessen Exlibris. LITERATUR: Darlow/Moule 4769. - Bibelslg. Württ. Landesbibl. C 499.
