61, [1] pp. + final blank. Folding engraved map as frontispiece. (8vo) 21.5x12 cm (8½x4¾"), modern cloth, leather spine label. First Edition. One of the earliest American works entirely devoted to canals in which the author advocates the advancement of navigable communication between the states in the Northeast, South, and Midwest, extolling the advantages for trade in manufactured and agricultural goods. Howes notes that this work is also ascribed to Turner Camac, and apparently it was "principally extracted" from Camac's Inland Navigation in Ireland and adapted by William Blodgett for American waterways. Quite uncommon with the map, titled "A Map of Pennsylvania Delaware New Jersey & Maryland with the Parts adjacent," measuring 30x38.5 cm. Howes B539; Sabin 5959. Old inkstamp of Towsend Whelen to top of title page.
