QUR'AN MUGHAL INDIA, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY Arabic manuscript on paper, 564ff. plus one fly-leaf, each folio with 10ll. of naskh script in white clouds on gold ground with red nasta'liq script, Persian interlinear translation, gold and polychrome verse roundels and marginal medallions, set within frames of scrolling vine and gold and blue rules, sura headings in red naskh script on gold ground with gold and polychrome floral marginal decoration, illuminated opening bifolium with gold and cobalt-blue interlocking palmettes on ground of polychrome scrolling flowers, closing bifolium similarly illuminated with gold and polychrome floral decoration, followed by a bifolium with illuminated circular shamsa on each page, in gilt decorated red morocco binding Text panel 8 5/8 x 4 5/8in. (23 x 11.8cm.); folio 11 5/8 x 7½in. (29.5 x 19cm.)
