QUR'AN SULTANATE OR MUGHAL INDIA , 17TH CENTURY Arabic manuscript on paper, 274ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 17ll. of text, the first, ninth and last line in large black thuluth script, bordering two panels of seven lines of small black naskh script, sura headings in white thuluth script within illuminated cartouches on gold ground, with gold and polychrome roundel verse markers, the text panel framed with floral illuminated panels, the marginal markers finely illuminated in gold and blue, the opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illuminated margins, bordered with bands of blue palmettes, first folio with small shamsa , catchwords, one bifolio with gold illuminated margins marking half of the Qur'an, the Qur'anic text followed by prayers in Persian, in fragile fine late 18th or early 19th century tooled and gilt red morocco binding Text panel 3.7/8 x 2.3/4in. (9.6 x 6.8cm.); folio 6.1/4 x 4.3/8in. (15.7 x 11.2cm.)
