Lot of 3, including two CDVs and an engraving. Studio portrait of English poet Robert Browning (1812-1889), with recto copyright attributed to Elliott & Fry and verso imprint, "Elliott & Fry / 55 Baker Street / Portman Square. W." Accompanied by a studio portrait of Welsh sculptor John Gibson stamped in blue ink on recto and verso with the name of Italian photographer "[Antonio] Mariannecci." Handwritten at the bottom of the CDV and attributed to Robert Browning's hand is the penciled note, "John Gibson Sculptor Rome 1862." Both Browning and Gibson spent decades of their lives living in Rome as British expatriates and were part of a group of artists known informally there as "The Browning Circle." Portrait of a young Robert Browning 6.75 x 9.5 in. including margins, credited to the "Swan Electric Engraving Co." and "From the drawing by Field Talfourd in the National Portrait Gallery." Condition: Some adhesive remnant on verso of Gibson CDV, otherwise good.
